Guggul Is Amazing For Hashimoto's

Guggul is amazing for Hashimoto's.

Low Free T3?  No problem – no need for a prescription!  Can you believe it?  It sounds too good to be true.

Guggul is amazing for Hashimoto’s.  After I was able to quit taking my thyroid medication, which I talk about in Part 8: How I Quit My Thyroid Medication, I started to research ways to help my T4 to T3 conversion.

My Free T3 was on the low side of normal- definitely not optimal- and I am still waiting for my body to normalize this process.

This is when I found the power of a tree resin called guggul.  I wasn’t sure if I could believe what I was reading because it seemed to be too good to be true.

In fact, I was quite skeptical.

WHAT IS GUGGUL?

Guggul is a resin from the tree Commiphora mukul – a tree that is native to India.  The active component from the guggul resin is called guggulsterones.

Guggul resin extract is widely available and easily found in supplement form.  Ayurvedic medicine has used guggul for over 3000 years as a significant part of treatment.

Guggul provides numerous health benefits- two of these wonderful benefits are to help normalize thyroid hormones and improve iodine uptake to make the thyroid gland more effective.

Other benefits to your health include improving cholesterol management (what it is most known for!), providing anti-inflammatory activity, and promoting antioxidant effects.

Guggul is also known for the ability to alleviate acne (more effective than tetracycline!) and promote weight loss caused by metabolic syndrome.

You can read more in depth about these incredible benefits here.

GUGGUL IS AMAZING FOR HASHIMOTO’S -MY EXPERIENCE

After doing a lot of research on guggul, I decide to give it a try.  The only negative side effect I have read about taking guggul is the possibility of indigestion and in rare cases there can be the presence of a rash.

So far I have not suffered either of these (thankfully!) even when taking it on an empty stomach.  I prefer to take guggul in the morning since I want the benefits early in my day and then take another dose again mid afternoon between lunch and dinner.

Guggul is amazing for Hashimoto’s!  It has restored my daily energy in ways I would have never expected considering my lower free T3 levels.

I have tried several different versions of guggul extract, but the one I have found that I prefer so far is Kanchanara Guggul.  This supplement is a coffee colored extract (and several other herbs) inside of a clear capsule that has been made according to the traditional Ayurvedic medicine process.

The other guggul supplements I tried did not provide the same energy benefit.

I did not feel much of a difference when I followed the directions on the bottle -1 capsule taken 2 times daily between meals- however, when I doubled the dose I found it was a perfect amount for me.  My energy returned in incredible volumes!

You should work with your doctor to determine what is correct for you.  Many people will find that they need to reduce their thyroid medication when choosing to supplement with guggul extract.  I am no longer taking thyroid medication so I did not need have to do this in my experience.

You can find more information on guggul for Hashimoto’s here.  If you decide to try using guggul extract- I hope you find that it lives up to its name as I have!

*UPDATE:  I wanted to report back that I have lowered my dose of guggul since writing this due to the effects of shortening my monthly cycle (It seems to have an estrogen like effect).  I have also added in taking Vitex to help keep my estrogen and progesterone hormones balanced as I continue to take it.  This information was important for me so I wanted to share it with you!
